Prayer for a New Year

"So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian. So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith." Galatians 3:24-26
Dear Jesus,
We come before you in humble praise for the many blessings you have provided over the past year. Your hand of goodness and mercy has been over us and we thank you for your gracious love. Lord, the past year was not perfect and many people suffered, we know that you work even in the difficult times and pray that your goodness and mercy may be seen even in the tough situations we and those around us have faced.
We offer thanksgiving to you for coming to this earth as a baby to live perfectly and die forsaken for us poor sinners. We thank you for the opportunity to worship you over the past holiday season and to remind us that you are the true reason for Christmas celebrations. May we ever keep you in our hearts and minds as we embark on this new year.
Jesus we thank you for making us children of the Father through your sacrifice and resurrection and that we are not eternally condemned by the law, but rather set free in your grace and love. Give us bold hearts and lips to speak this to the lost around us.
Please be with all our students and families as they come back to school this week. May they be safe and find joy in learning once again in this new year. Be with our teachers as they come back to their classrooms that they may be filled with your joy and peace. Continue to bless St. John's.
We ask this all in your name, Jesus. Amen!
